Yesterday was a sad day for David and I. Our pet parakeet, Kitty, died. Kitty was our first pet, and for me, he made our house (apartment actually), a home. It was always fun watching him zip around our apartment, later on the house, and in our current home. To be honest though, I don’t think he ever really found his “place” in this house….and I think he missed being able to see out the windows like he could in our last two places….so while I’m deeply saddened by his passing, I know he’s free. And as always, our life experiences, both good and bad leave me thinking. We do our best to keep ourselves, our pets, our friends, and family safe. We don’t let our domestic bird fly free outside because it never learned how to find its own food and stay out of the path of larger birds…and yet, at some point, nature takes it’s course anyway.
And that makes sense…letting Kitty be free outside would have been an actual threat to his survival….much like we don’t let a toddler play outside alone. It doesn’t yet have the skills to know how to stay out of the way of oncoming cars and such.
Yet, how often do we place ourselves in a self-imposed prison under the guise of keeping ourselves safe and away from harm? Only in this case, it’s emotional harm that we’re trying to save ourselves from, not physical harm.
Here’s the deal. You can pretend that in trying to micromanage your life, the universe, and everything that entails will keep you safe from being hurt (again)….but it won’t. Life has a way of squeezing in through the cracks of even the tightest prison walls.
So why not break down those walls and live free now? And if breaking them down is more than you can imagine at the moment, step outside them just for a minute and see how it feels.
Until next time, live free, fly free, and #BeHappyNow.
Much love and abundant blessings,

I’m so sorry to hear about Kitty. Birds can be wonderful companions for the right people. If you ever consider getting another bird sometime in the future, please consider an avian rescue.
Thank you….
I never thought about an avian rescue…which makes no sense since I get my dogs from rescues.
Sending you much peace….
